Caterpillar room Canterbury (toddlers)

Our Caterpillar Room for toddlers encourages free flow play inside and out where children can explore many activities. As the children make the transition from Baby Choos, our toddler room is oozing with a wealth of toys and games which aim to inject fun into every child’s day and encourage a zest for learning. Children are encouraged to find learning fun and their achievements and developments are recognized to develop the children’s confidence and self-esteem.

Specifically designed for this age group the Caterpillar room is spacious with many large windows giving natural light. The Caterpillar room and inviting with opportunities for learning wherever you turn. The inside gives access to a large well equipped outdoor play area where all aspects of development are considered.

The Caterpillar team are employed not only for their qualifications and experience but for their ability to interact, be approachable and caring. They meet children’s needs through sensitive and appropriate interactions, thereby promoting self esteem.

Outside Play

Children can ‘free flow’ outside and inside when ever they choose. They are allowed to be independent and grow in confidence selecting appropriate outdoor clothing when needed. They select materials and form close friendships as their imagination comes alive.

All outdoor play is supervised by adults who observe and know when to provide support.

Inside

The indoors is bright and welcoming with excellent facilities. Areas are zoned and include play for construction, science, games, music, books, I.C.T, puzzles, art and craft, role play and mark making. The environment allows children opportunities to be involved in group play or to have time relax. Resources are age and stage appropriate and all are accessible for independent play.

Meal times and drinks

Meals times are very social with the children being involved throughout the process. To promote their self esteem the children lay the table, serve their own food and drink and tidy up after. They learn and enjoy this routine very quickly. Choochoos provide nutritional home cooked meals from our fully trained and experienced chef. Any allergy or special need is catered for understanding every child is individual. Drinks are freely available during all times. The children can access and pour their own water.

Daily routine

The routine is carefully planned to encourage independence and confidence. Children are offered opportunities to take part in group activities, story times and experiences involving music and dance. They are not forced to participate and are normally attracted due to the careful planning of the practitioners. The key person approach is fully embedded in the Caterpillar room and each child has times in their routine to spend a ‘special time’ with their key person. Planning is led my children’s next developmental steps therefore meeting the needs of every individual.

Venturing out

The children often go out exploring as part of our weekly planning. With so many places to visit the children love venturing out. To maximize safety ratio’s of adults to children are increased and children are given florescent jackets to wear. Walks allow the children to collect materials to use back in the nursery and camera’s give the children opportunities to snap any items of interest. The park is a great hit and the children are very familiar with the equipment there. The children often visit a local old peoples home to show off their singing skills which gives them great links with the local community.
